Weird 1965 Kennedy found while CRHing, Pics POSTED!!Thanks K!!!

It seems like part of the top layer of the coin is gone. What kind of error would this be? K is will hopefully post some pics for me soon. My comp just won't allow me to even if I recrop. I've tried everything

The coin was an ender too. First I've ever seen like this.

That's an odd coin. It looks like someone tried to peel the clad layer off.

Well as you should know the 40% halves are similar to the regular clad in the sense that they are clad/plated(to my knowledge), just 1965-70 are silver clad. It looks like some of the silver clad layer has come off. I am not entirely sure what causes that but my guess would be either a flaw in the metal or a flaw in the die. Perhaps when the dies struck the coin it wasn't done perfectly and some of the silver clad layer of the coin stuck to the die when the die was removed. Thats my best guess.
I have a 1943 Canadian tombac nickel with a similar issue. There is a bit of a chunk taken out of my nickel but the design is lightly still stamped into the coin where the small chunk is missing. Then the dip in the coins hits a part of the coin where (it is similar to the coin pictured here) the coin has a thin layer of metal that is sort of curling up. I will attempt to post a picture some time.
I would take it to a coin dealer and get an expert opinion on it.

Since the detail of the lower layer looks like the original minting, I'd guess that there is a layer of some kind of metal SOLDERED to the top of a normal coin.

You find all kinds.

I think Piledriver has got the right idea. There is too much detail on the under layer and not enough on the top layer. JMHO.

I think Piledriver has got the right idea. There is too much detail on the under layer and not enough on the top layer. JMHO.

My eye tells me it is the layer with the detail that is peeling off.

Notice how the curl where the 'B' of LIBERTY should be is attached to the detailed part of the coin. The clad layer is partially missing - exposing the core. I don't know enough to say if it is a mint lamination error or post mint damage.
