Looks like part of a distributor form a tractor of the magneto type

It is a spring loaded fly weight for something. The little short pawl makes me think recoil starter,trip for early magneto etc. Tony

So, it's old machinery. We've found a couple Model T Ford parts in the area, maybe from that?
