🔎 UNIDENTIFIED Brass whatchamacallit

Ideas? Brass. I think the bend is intentional and it’s mushroomed, so thinking tool. Came from central Nc at a house site from late 1800s. Pretty sure there was a house prior to the current one. Any ideas appreciated.

Being that the round end is "mushroomed" I would say it's either a brass punch or at least was used as one, brass punches are used where you don't want to scratch, dent or damage the metal you are striking and or in areas where a spark could cause a fire or explosion.

I understand the purpose for a brass punch…..guess I should have clarified my question….what purpose would a brass punch (shaped this way) serve?

Also thinking it could be something used on leather or wood (or something else softer than brass)

Most center punch tools have a distinct Point and are made of steel. Cool find.

Looking online I see they do make brass chisels/scrapers, which your looks like could be for a similar use and made of brass because of the same reasons I stated previously.
