Got back into the site where I found the Royal Artillery buttons and the 1 reale for most of the day today. Actually we started at a new site this morning where the majority of.my target came from including most of the buttons, the copper and the barrel tap. Targets were few and far between in the Royal Artillery site but my hunting partner pulled what we are reasonably sure is a Kings American Dragoons rosette...which would be his second. Just after he pulled the rosette I got a solid target and pulled out the clipped corner plate. I know there is considerable debate on these with the expert consensus being that they are trunk plates but my argument is that a trunk plate would most likely be engraved with the owners name or initials but a belt plate could be plain...as most of the oval belt plates are. Anyway, it was a nitro moment and still fun to find.

The river was historically low but we struck out with the exception of a ditched wallet and a couple unbroken clay pigeons.

Nice finds. I love seeing and finding those barrel taps.
The plate looks more like it would go on a shoulder sling. The hooks definitely look like they were made to attach to leather.

Nice assortment of finds. Congrats.

Super day out.Congrats :icon_thumright:

I love finding barrel taps intact...an underrated relic for sure!

Blah blah blah...lol!

Would be nice to find a complete one, tap and all. Seems it's the same idea as a side plate, too tasty for the plow... although the tap would take a better beating....so maybe.

I like it. The ones with the beveled corners and small, folded over tacks, like yours, lend them to be worn by a person, not on furniture. I have a thread from just over a year ago on one almost identical from Maryland. Awesome stuff there.

Looks like some very nice finds.

Not at the moment, it's buried in my safe deposit box. I keep my favorite "toys" there. Found the other thread and bumped it to the top.
