Well, it's down below 20 degrees now, here in Northeast PA., and the winds were howling at over 30 mph yesterday afternoon, when I decided to go out to try a new spot for a few hours.
The ground is pretty much frozen now, and the plugs just kinda come out like frozen chunks.
At least it rained some in the last couple of days, getting rid of the 4-5 inches of snow we got on Sunday. But now we got a couple more inches of snow today.
I found these 4 coins, along with a few wheats during yesterdays hunt.
A 28-D Merc, a 1916 Barber dime, a 1905 V-nickel, and an undated Buffalo nickel. All of them were roughly 5-6 inches deep.
The first pic is exactly how they came out of the ground, and the second and third pics are after some cleaning.
I tried something new with the Nickels. Boiling olive oil. What the hell. :-\
These are my first wilvers for December, and it kinda completes a little goal I had for myself this year. To find at least one wilver per month for the entire year.
So now I've found at least one wilver every month in 2007. I know, it's goofy! :P
Thanks for looking.
TBK.

Very nice finds. Too bad the ground is already frozen. I guess we are fortunate here in Tennessee because last winter the ground did freeze but stayed that way only in the shaded areas. I hope you do get to hunt some more before it gets too bad. Hang in there.

Nice Finds! I guess I've seen my last hoorah for the year too as we have 6 inches of snow and 5 degrees here in NW Indiana.

NOO! Not goofy at all having a goal AND meeting it! 8) Hate to hear winter has put a slow down on the hunting, but what a way to end the year! :o

TBK,
Congrats on some great coins there. Very nice hunt. I still haven't found a Barber. :'(
Boiling in olive oil, huh. I was soaking a coin and a button in a few tablespoons of olive oil the other day and my wife about had a fit. ;D She said "that stuffs about $7.00 a bottle. Can't you use vegetable oil?"
That's what I get for marrying an Italian. That olive oil is sacred stuff I guess? ;)

Here's the secret Captn_SE told me about cleaning nickels. You can see the results, along with the photo in Foxhounds post from our last hunt together. The photo of the cleaned Buffalo, along with an explaination of the process appears about halfway down the thread.

Works well--without the olive oil ;)
