Went back to an old site today... Counterfeit capped bust quarter!

My wife and I went back to an old site today and focused on an area we had worked before, but this time with my small coil for more separation. We still dug big iron sounding targets to see what they were. We got more buttons, all smooth on the front. One thicker one says standard colour gilt on the back, and one more word I can’t read. I’m not sure if that one fits the time the rest of this stuff came from. Maybe a passerby dropped it later. Also found a holed coin, although I question if it’s real because the edges are crumbling. Maybe it was originally made as a pendant? I tried to sidelight it and get some photos, but they’re still crappy cell phone photos. Can anyone tell what it was?

Nice finds Gerry, glad you guys can get out! It looks like it says "MEXICA" on the coin. Also looks like a bird shape on the coin, nice find. Hope we can figure it out.

Counterfeit capped bust quarter. Most likely pewter which is why it's crumbling.

I've found several capped bust counterfeit half dollars, but never a quarter. Cool find!

Cool! It looks like someone chewed it up and spat it back out. Maybe they actually bit it and realized it was counterfeit and tossed it!

Added photos; counterfeit capped bust quarter

Thanks for the suggestions! I took some better photos today, and I'd say Paleo nailed it. Counterfeit quarter. I am curious about this button in particular; is there a site to date them by design? This button is thicker than most I find. The back says TREBLE STANDARD COLOUR GILT with the design. DSCF6063.JPG DSCF6065.JPG DSCF6066.JPG DSCF6069.JPG
