Were is the best places to search for old coins

Haven't been able to locate a pic of a cft. in any auctions or anything. Can't believe that Atlee, with all his experience with coppers, would cut a die that would be so far off on the last digit in the date. The arm pointing up bothers me, as compared to the other examples. But, these coins were test pieces......and patterns.....correct? Well, until they minted and circulated some. I guess there's no definitive numbers on production , right?

I really don't know what to think so am just waiting for the guys who count to chime in.

You always know just what to say!:love10:

So are you busy Saturday night? ;) If it's all spent don't bother. Man that really sounds like two little blond twin byatches I was talking to over the weekend!

There is a waterfall fountain at the miami library on flagler street downtown. It's always got several hundred coins in it.

Coins are where the people were. Abandoned parks, private property, old roads that are no longer being used. You can use google maps to look for old walking paths. If you look closely on the map, you can still see them. You might also take a look at the history of your town. Talk to old people about places that they frequented back then.

Go to the oldest park in your area and search slowly you will find old coin, i have been hunting parks for eighteen years i no what im doing....

any old place where there were fair amounts of people in your local area is a great starting point * the more folks there was the more likely one of them lost something of value (be it coins or jewelry ect) -- places where there was activity --fishing ,swimming ,picnicking or small business's are often good --remember for you to find old stuff --it had to be lost first * there --so whats there now is not as important as what WAS there long ago.--in many cases a "good spot" will be used over and over and over again by humans --sometimes very trash spots have been used for a long, long time

rusty old cars with no floors

I never thought of that one yesterday.:)

what this guy says is true everyone else is pretty much being sarcastic but noone is gonna tell you where they hunt cause they already did the research i spend hours at the library goin over old newspapers and the same on the internet its mind boggling the amount of stuff people forget about or just write off

Megnpat,

Any particular stories/things you focus on when you look at old newspapers? Just curious. (if you're willing to share).

Thanks!

The two best places I have searched are the park along side of the public pool and an old church that dates back to the revolutionary war. The park was fair game for anyone who wished to search it and I ran into several TH'ers. The park dated back to the forties. I had great success when others found very little. The other guys searched mostly around the playground and picnic tables. I searched the wide open field for over a year. I found over sixty silver coins, four gold rings, two gold charms, and at least a dozen silver rings and silver charms. The church took special permission (My wife works there). I found two seated liberty coins, a Columbia silver half dollar, sever musket balls, and many relics to numerous to mention. I believe that success depends on being willing to dig every signal until you become totally familiar with what the detector is telling you. Search the areas that no one else searches. dig a lot, and go over areas again and again. A silver dime in the middle of a four acre field is easily passed over. After searching the pool park for over a year I found a 14K gold ring with a three carat ruby, a walking liberty half, and a Franklin half. Happy hunting. And good luck! By the way, I use an Ace 350 and recently purchased an AT Pro.

old papers look for robbies -- where the loot was not recovered * --a bank robbery where the crooks got caught but the money wasn't recovered --often the crooks went to jail for a long time dying in jail.---having buried the money nearby their hideout or place where they got arrested -- fires that burnt down homes (esp if the home owner died in the fire.) many folks used to stash coins in their homes or on their land in mason jars) --look for old fair locations advertised in the papers and other "entertainment" places where money might change hands.

Met a guy who's brother in law lost his wedding ring! Had a general location in his yard. About 1000 sq ft hillside. Found it in 30 minutes. And only on the second plug! Returned the ring and received a $20.00 reward! I was happy with finding my first gold ring! Love this hobby!! Used a White's Coinmaster

I have always had great luck at any construction or demo activity. My favorites are sidewalk and road reconstructions. I am working on a post on a site I have been working for over a month on a sidewalk and road tearout. My best and incredible finds so far in the last 15 years.
