western pa

yesterday i went to get some rusty gold (car parts) in western pa, near Pittsburgh. On the drive i noticed some real nice geology that looked like it could be gold bearing. Has anyone done any prospecting in that area? I live in nys where i can not keep anything i find by law, and was thinking maybe these creeks not far from me (3 hours) could be a fun place to pan/backpack dredge.

Any info would be great on this. And yes i know going to the north west USA would have better outcome, but it would involve way more logistics at this time then i want to invest.
