Took a trip to Illinois this weekend and am amazed how banks here will not sell to me since I have no account there. I totally understand as they get a charge but where I live, I rarely, if ever am asked if I have an account. I order 2 times a week so I normally do not have a need to go to many non member banks and ask for boxes but before I ordered, I would pick up at dozens of non member banks and was never asked if I had an account.

Is it normal to not be sold coins at non member banks, or do you find most don't ask? This area sure asks and will not sell to you without a hefty fee.

Illinois is a severely depressed state and economy so I would imagine that individual branches might not be raking in enough profit to handle ordering excess coinage. My wifes father passed Illinois about 40 miles east of St Louis and I took my 4 year old roll hunting to keep her occupied one day. 12 banks = 0 halves and 8 asking if I had an account. Here in Georgia I bet ive been asked that question twice ever.

Comes from being the "Land of Nobama". ::)

I live smack dab here in the middle of Obamaland and I don't have a problem.

Not gonna get into the politics of it here although I wish that I could post in the politics section. It's pretty much drawn between red and blue states in terms of opinion here.

However out here, it's very common for branches to ask for account numbers especially in ordering coins and most definitely in dumping them. In fact when visiting new branches, I would be very surprised if they didn't ask me if I had an account.

I've scored silver in Michigan's UP when on vaca, and as far south in Tennessee after a funeral. It blew my mind, southern hopitality and the prim and properness of the tellers when asking if I had an account in TN. Every place is different.

I've never been asked if I have an account at any bank I've gone into to ask for boxes, rolls, or loose coins. I've only been asked once when dumping rolls of halves, this past friday at a TN branch of one of my banks. After I confirmed that I did, she suddenly remembered that I dumped some halves there 3 weeks prior, and that I had made a deposit into my account then.

Only certain banks in my area will ask if I have an account. A lot of times they will ask " Just take it out of your account?" And I'll usually try to slide by by saying "Nope, just trading cash today" and a lot of times they won't really ask if I "have" an account. I've gotten by many times doing this at banks that I don't have an account at.
