Checked out a new site today..and what a surprise to say the least...What a haul I had today!! One of my best days EVER! Found 2 1938 small NF (Newfoundland) cents, 2 1942 NF small cents, 1 1943 NF small cent, 1918 Canadian Large cent, 1896 NF Large cent, 1917 NF silver 5 cents (fishscale), 1941 NF silver 5 cents (fishscale) and last but not least...an 1896 NF 50 silver cent piece!!
Here's some info on Newfoundland currency. Our coins were minted from 1865 to 1947 and in very low mintages. Guess you can say our currency is extinct! Newfoundland was also the only British colony to have its own issue of gold coins.. The $2 gold coin which were only minted from 1865 to 1888. Haven't found one yet! Newfoundland coins are not worth a great deal but they are increasing in value. There were small and large cents, a silver 5 cents (fishscale), a 10 cent coin, 20 cents, 25 cents, 50 cents, and the gold two dollars.
