I'll have to make this post quick because my fingers are still slightly numb! I just got back from my parents after feeding my face most of the day. I honestly had no intention of detecting but I threw the SE in the car as always when I head out of town. After eating turkey we watched the Packers game ...visited...then I decided to head home. By then it was only an hour from getting dark. Well on the way home I passed a small town and figured what the heck...so I decided to hit the old ball diamond that was used in the 40's and 50's. I just needed a quick fix and a few wheaties would have been fine but I ended up doing pretty well. Sorry for the quick post but seriously I'm still unthawing and just plopped the goodies on the scanner without even cleaning them.
I got an hour in before darkness hit and the second hour it was almost totally dark and I started getting pelted with snow! ;D
Ended up with a gorgeous sterling silver band which is very ornate...2 Injuns 1892 and 1907....a 1923 merc...a cubscouts pin... 12 wheaties...2 very old buttons...and 8 frozen fingers...thumbs...not sure but I guess they're still there....just numb. Hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving.

Those are some great digs...WTG!

Isn' it amazing how we can get obsessed with detecting? There have been times when I have snuck out during working hours for a quick hunt! Does anyone know of a support group for Disorder for the Addiction of Metal Detecting, better known as DAMD?

Thats what I call a die hard! I like that Indian head. Is the snow too deep to detect now? Or is the ground frozen? Although it doesn't sound like that will stop you ;)

Thanks kg6yll. It was just starting to snow and it's the first snow for us here. We got no accumulation and the ground is not frozen yet.

Devotion to your hobby my friend ! Hunting in the dark, the cold, and snow heightens the senses and a shivering arm helps swing the search coil !! Good finds !! ;)

Hey great job. I've done the same thing myself. I've gone out when its been freezing out and hunted in the snow. I don't think anyone here would call you a moron except......those people who live in the states were its warm all year round. LOL I'm thnking on going out myself today. Its 17 degrees here in Michigan. Nearly all the snow is melted, but now its ice. It should make for an interesting day! HAHAHA Hope you get out today! Remember some gloves this time! ;D Take care!

Thanks Steve.
It's 23 degrees here right now and luckily I have to work this morning...otherwise I would probably be hunting again. Good luck to you if you hunt today as you mentioned...and nice to meet you.

Thats a good idea putting it in your car all the time, may have to try that. Great finds.....

Tough digs SilverFreak! Your story reminds me of a hunt about 1989 when my dad was still alive. It was January and a cold day here in Central Illinois. Ground was frozen but we had the fever so every signal we got we literally had to chisel out a chunk of dirt and take it home and thaw it out. We found Wheats, and a few Mercury dimes. Boy were we crazy. Just kinda made me think of my Dad. He was my metal detectorists hero. Im 41 now, he passed away in 1991, it seems like eons ago. Thanks for the great story Silverfreak, and again nice finds. Happy Hunting

My son in law and I went for about 90 minutes on Thanksgiving day and
froze our butts off for $2.50 in clad. Had a lot of fun anyways, only 29 degrees and windy.
Your finds were alot better than ours.

There's never a wrong time to metal detect...doubt anyone on this forum would think you're a moron! And you found some nice stuff.
