What a random site I'm on...

I have been hunting on this spot for a few weekends and it obviously has been used for a while. My first hunt found a 50-56 Spencer Carbine round (S.A.W.) the next week a some early .44 Henry carbine casings. Now this last week I found what appears to be a 25-36 USC Co (Marlin) WWI era 30.06 and what appears to be a fired musket ball? I attempted to do my due diligence and look up what it could be. I know it is NOT a large caliber (I packed my caliper as soon as I find it I'll post that info) I read that Muskets are "technically" Smooth bore, so Why would this round ball have rifling?

The newer black powder round ball reproduction rifles and pistols I have all have rifled barrels.

A round ball fired from a colt revolver (1851 for example) will have rifling marks on it, and round ball .36 cal ammunition was common. I still cast and shoot my own.
