I was detecting a short distance from some hunting camps and got a signal. A couple swings from my digger uncovered the jaw from a trap. I grabbed hold of the jaw and kept swinging to uncover the rest of it. Up popped a still set #2 coil spring trap. The dog was at the very end of the pan. It been buried so long it had rusted open and didn't set off when I was uncovering it.

Guess it did not work when it was new either.

Good thing For rust !

Now get some WD 40 & Get it working :icon_thumleft:

Now that is truly a conversation piece at the local watering hole.....Well done!!

" Likewise " Your lucky it didn't trip.

A little electrolysis, some WD-40, a smidgen of oil, and that would be hanging up on my bathroom wall!
Great find!
Carl
Or by the cats litter box!

That would have left a mark. #2 - Bridger, offset double coil spring. I used a few when I was a kid. In the 70's a fox pelt was worth $150.00
and coyote's were around $125.00. Good money for a kid.

ouch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not sure when they started putting name tags
on them. Did you check the hole for One ?

Cool find!! They don't hurt as much as people think though. They also don't break bones, they just hold with superior force.
Kind of bothers me that someone never pulled their trap, which means if an animal had been in it, they would have never gone to put it down.
Anyway, most should have a name tag, so if it isn't there, go back and see if you can find it :icon_thumleft:

There was a tag on it, but the part with the name on it was broke off. A month ago, I had found another trap, with the tag on it. I recognized the name as a girl in my class . I asked her if she knew the person, and she replied that it was her grandfather, and he had passed away in 1971.

I Figured that may be the Case.
a Friend of Mine, a Big time Trapper
died unexpectedly a couple years ago. Unless he had
a tag along who was Close to him, My guess
there are alot of Box traps along his old route
rotting.
Probably happens alot.

I would have been happy to have found that! I have found trap pieces but never a complete trap.

Very cool find!

scary to think that there are still set traps out there, happy hunntin

that trap probably isn't over a year or two old. I trap and they can look like this within a month or two if the weather conditions are "right" (or wrong, however you look at it) and you let them sit that long without a catch.
