I would have bought those so fast that old lady would have spun like a top. Even at $20 if they are artifakes I would have still bought them. They are beautiful and someone somewhere spent a lot of time making them. Certainly more than $20 worth of effort went into their construction and if they prove to be ancient then you made a Hell of a buy.
I can't tell from a picture if they are really ancient or modern unless they are made of glass or something. I know that the it seems the older they are the finer the work. Clovis and prehistoric points are like little jewels and they seem to be made by much more talented hands than the Woodland points and Archaic points I find which seem hurried and crude. NC is famous for crude points though so I am not the one to ask. Everything posted here is awesome to me. Including this threads pictures. I wish I had them, they would surely be in a frame within a day or two.

I would exercise caution selling them unless it is absolutely clear they are not authenticated yet. Let the buyer know where you got them. Again, I would have thrown $20 at that old lady and ran to my truck giggling if I would have spotted those at a yardsale whether they are real or not. They look like the work of a very talented person regardless. All you need to do now is determine how long ago that talented person made them. Might be 1975, might be 11,975BC. Killer find.

i dont think anyone would have waited for an authentication before handing over twenty bucks at a yard sale for those pieces.i would have been running home and praying they were real.

Yep. $20 for those two, modern or not, is a bargain for such nice work.

The false impression created by ebay "opportunists" notwithstanding, the prices that many good knappers charge for their work is not all that high -- check some direct-from-the-source sites for examples. But still, $10/ea. for those two is a steal. And if you ever find yourself roped into giving a presentation to the local fifth grade class, boy scout troop or whatnot, you've got stuff to show them you won't be sweating over them handling.

That said (not challenging the validity of anybody else's generalization but offering a different "take" on it) it seems to me that Clovis work is (both as-found and cached), in general, crude relative to at least selected examples of later-paleo/plano/early archaic points. Darned few stand comparison with "the best of" Fluted Dalton, Folsom, Hardin, Plevna, Thebes, Pine Tree &c.

Those points are very nice! Clovis does look cruder...maybe I was thinking Folsom?

Someone once told me that the value of something is what YOU are willing to pay for it. It was your decision to purchase these for $20.00. Just enjoy em. Just starting out in a hobby renders a lot of questions. You kind of learn as you go. If they were mine I would shadow box them and tag them as my first Arrowhead purchase. Enjoy them and enjoy your hobby! :icon_thumright: HH
