Anyways, I went metal detecting today, annoyed like yesterday because my coil was loose and not staying in place. I lost the plastic screw for the coil a couple days ago somewhere and have been trying to deal with it. I was not sure exactly when I lost it or even which site I lost it, it could have been anywhere in my town for all I knew. Anyways, Thirty minutes or so into my hunt I start yelling to my buddy saying, "Wow! You will never believe what I just found!" When I was metal detecting I saw the little plastic screw in the leaves that apparently fell off a couple days ago. I quickly grabbed it and screwed it back on and was able to metal detect much happier for the rest of my hunt.

Have any of you had an experience like that? Later today I beat the odds again by finding the container that some weird porcelain cap I found went to at a trash pile. I was finally able to ID it, circa 1900 Nail Enamel porcelain container.

As a backup in case one breaks or falls off, head to the hardware store and buy a couple of nylon bolts and nuts. They are really cheap, come in a variety of sizes and lengths and work just fine on detectors. I carry a couple in the car, along with my other possible necessities, like fresh batteries etc.

I sorta did once. I was hunting with 2 friends, riding with them, and I noticed my Iphone was almost dead but I had no charging cable. I stress without my smart phone for the phone's research abilities, besides needing it for personal security on the road. We got a permission soon after, and I actually found a charging cable for my Iphone! It was a surface find but it counts. Plugged right into a port on the friend's ride.

I found that unique since we were on the lookout for a Racetrack gas station to buy the same cord.

I was hunting a demo lot one time when I looked down and discovered a Lesche digging tool........my own. I had dropped it earlier and had made my way back around and found it by accident.

Lost my head lamp out bush in Australia while prospecting.
Spent 2 days looking for it, me and my mates, and nada. Left that area for a month and came back as we worked back south on our route. So I get out and do my thing one fine morning and I beeped my headlamp under a log not far from our camp. Still working :) It turned into a spare as I'd already replaced it.

You might want to buy some power ball tickets while your luck is good!

I'm considering it :laughing7: On Sunday I found my first 1700's Silver, On Monday I found more colonial relics that I knew what to do with, including a very very old copper coin, Yesterday I found the screw that fell of my metal detector. Funny because a few days ago I picked two four leaf clovers and left them in the car I take metal detecting, yesterday I picked another one because I felt that the first two worked, then I ended up finding the screw which is the size of a gumdrop. I think I just might pick some more today :)

Million to one, lost and found.
I did have a similar experience, but not with a detector part.
Was gold panning on the sea shore, sat my gold vial down with at least 5 grams in it, forgot about as I went about my business, when the tide was in I realized I had left it "somewhere" and resolved that it was gone, and pretty much forgot about it. Later on when the tide went back out I happened upon it. Never seen my jacket again though.
PS don't keep your back to the ocean, every once in awhile a BIG wave comes along and drenches you.

Your on one kind of lucky roll! Buy that ticket!

Nothing to do with MD'ing but I did get VERY LUCKY ONCE (VERY LUCKY FOR ME). Was raised with guns and was introduced to hunting very early. One early fall day in Southwest MI. in 69' I and a friend decided to go squirrel hunting. He had a new pair of binoculars. Now what the hell did he or me need binoculars for squirrel hunting is beyond me.... don't ask! SO..... I grabbed my DAD'S high powered ones he used out west in Colorado. So we're out hunting that afternoon and I lay the binoculars down by a tree I'm sitting by. I see a pair of fox squirrel's and off I go. I did get both squirrel's after about 15 minutes. Then I took off after another one and got it also. Now it's getting dark and Kevin and I meet at the spot we always do and head out. He has 1 and I had my 3 squirrels and we're both happy. Half way to the truck he asks did the binoculars help me....? Hell... I never used them! I laid them down by the tree and LEFT THEM THERE when going after the first 2 squirrels. I discovered the binoculars were useless in the close woods... (go figure)

Needless to say I/WE hunted for 2 days looking for the pair of binoculars before my dad discovered them gone from his gun case. We didn't find them. But 2 days later on a Sat. morning again out hunting squirrels and setting up archery tree stands I FOUND THEM!!!!! It never rained and they were in perfect condition. I cleaned them, wiped them and put all optic covers back on and put them BACK into the case they came from...... DAD STILL DOESN'T KNOW..... I was 15 then and he passed in 2012. I'll be 60 in August. I'm so happy he didn't find out..... REAL HAPPY!!!!!

This didn't happen detecting by years ago I was dove hunting with my dad and sister. It was getting late and my sister wanted to go back to the truck. On her way back across 2 tilled up safflower fields(I think each was 40 acres) she lost the keys. When we got back to the truck it was dark and we only had a little flashlight. We decided to try to trace back her steps and went as straight as possible back to our spot in the corner of the 2nd field and half way there we found the keys. Was literally like finding a needle in a hay stack because the field had been tilled up and had chunks of dirt the size of baseball's to bowling balls all over the place so we got lucky they didn't fall into a hard to see spot.
