Could the be leftovers from where our church had copper gutters installed? I know they left behind the scraps because I found them today!

I'd say that's probably right..First thing I thought when I saw the pic was roofing tack.

They look like the "O pins" used in archery to hold target faces on a woven straw archery butt (those round colorfull straw target faces). Did the church every have an archery league. Popular in the 50's and 60's.

They're for slate roofing tiles. I don't know what they're called though.
