What did this bracket hold?

Found this wall bracket yesterday at an old boyscout camp. 3" tall by 2" deep. Probably brass. Weighs 3.2 oz. Any ideas?

That's the male part of a roller catch. Could be anything from the lid of a firewood box to the door of a walk-in freezer.
