what do y'all think?

this one bothers me. I just can't decide..is it or isn't it? It is pretty rough (abrasive) and I have seen in books that PNW coast Indians used these for wood working, notice the slight curve on one side. I am not sure how it would have been used....maybe like a rasp? To be honest I am not sure if it is anything more than a rock...but it sure did stand out when I found it.

so what do yous guys think?

Yes sir it would stand out to me as well. I am unsure what its purpose may have been. Maybe some one else may take a gander at it. Looks almost polished but then much of that material can look that way :dontknow: Good luck

Mac - I'd say context is what matters here. If you found it with a pile of other rocks, it's probably just a rock. If you found in an associated setting with out other hardstone in the area, well then I'd think it's possibly a tool utilized stone at that point.

...all my "rocks" come from an old site and not a river bed......

I'd call it an abrader then. Used to wear down either wood or stone.

thats what I've been told, and it is still rough enough to use too. But I would like to see one in action.
