What do you do in this situation....

Hey everyone,

I never quite know what to do when a teller is nice enough to take time to open the vault, get me a significant amount in halves, only to see that they are re-wrapped nf string rolls, ya know the yellow ones that come in the boxes.

These are obviously someone's re-wraps and NEVER have produced anything other than 1 NIFC 2008 half.

I don't want to take them, but don't want to be rude to the teller and bite the hand that feeds me. I usually take them to a TD bank where I am friends with the tellers and they don't care how much I dump. Any other suggestions that won't wast time of searching through hundreds of dollars of someone's rejects?

Any time I ask for halves and they have some I take them all. If you turn them down they may wonder why and start looking into CRHing.

The less the tellers know the better off we are.

Besides, you never know. You may get a proof, an error or just a cool coin to have.

I've found a few gold plated coins that I give to the tellers at my buy banks and they love them.
Keep them happy and they keep you happy.

Lol, your tellers like gold? Mine are happy with a box of munchkins once a month or so haha. One guy saves the rejects for me and lets me pick through them. I've gotten about 12 british pounds worth and 35 euro aside from countless cool world coins from them. Also got a few vintage NYC transit tokens most of the internationals aren't worth much, but they sure are interesting

If dumping is not a problem, I'd just buy them. If you turn them down too many times, they'll start telling you no when you ask for halves again.

really? and they were in re-wrapped fed rolls? I mean if someone is investing the money in ordering boxes then I'd assume they know what to look for.

Always take them all... always. I haven't found nowhere near 80 in re-wraps, but they haven't always been 100% skunks either. I do find the occasional 40%er in a re-wrap.

If a teller goes into the vault to retrieve rolls, then I feel you should buy them all regardless. Its just common courtesy. That same teller will have to take the time to return them for the vault. Also, most tellers hate halves and are very happy to get rid of them. Anything you can do to get on the good side of a teller/bank is a plus in this hobby. Lastly, the next time your in that bank, there may be 20 rolls of 90%ers in the vault. They might just remember the guy that refused the halves the last time and tell you they don't have any.

always take them as was said not everyone knows about 40% Last summer went to a bank, teller smiles and said yes we have 130 but they have been looked through. That look in her eye said I looked through them. Well she had, not one 90% in the lot. but 32 40%. My best find to date. Another bank down the road 10 miles same thing,except that teller said she hunted them, at that bank I average 1 40% per $200. that is better than most boxes around here.

for people who just edge hunt, many 40%ers are missed... I have one bank that the teller will go through the rolls she has in front of me.. pick out what she wants then hand to me with clad fillers... I almost always get the 40%ers.. she has no clue about them and she has been there over 30 yrs...since I started at this bank.. she has become the head teller.. well now very rarely do they gimme me any halves at all... the other day I stopped at another of their branches.. got like 100$ in handrolls.. they told me to try this other branch.. the teller had been there the day before.. and knew they had all kinds... when I stopped atthe branch.. they said.. no we havent had any in a long long time .. so you never know.. I always take halves wherever I can get them.... get rid of em so next time you know anything they have you have not went through yet

If this is a bank that you frequent a lot, take them and dump them. Rapport with order banks is key. If it's just some bank that you hardly ever go to because it's out of you town area, then you don't have to accept them. I've gotten ones that were Brinks re-wrapped and just from the ends you can tell someone did a sloppy job wrapping them. I said No to it so I didn't get them. This bank is out of town for me and they were cool with it.

If you ask for halfs you need to take what they give you. You can always take them somewhere else and dump them.....Matt

Thanks, I was thinking about posting a similar question about buying others' dumps. I have been buying them just so as not to be rude, but was thinking about avoiding banks that I know are others' dump banks. Now I think I will just buy them all. Actually, in marked customer rolls, I've gotten 1 double-tails magician's half and 2 40%ers, and in rewrapped bank rolls, several NIFC (only since December when I started CRH). Not bad.
