I've been trying to work the halves in my area as much as I can, focusing on fast flips of coins to cash.

When I have an extra hundred or so, I'll often swing to a bank and ask for halves.

Most often, the teller will tell me that they have several hundred dollars worth, so I ask for $100.

Most of the time, the teller will lay the CWR's on the counter, and they are almost always marked rolls.

What do you do? Do you go ahead and buy the marked rolls, or do you tell the teller you don't want them, even if she went to the vault to get them?

I had a nice run in my area of buying all the halves a bank had, which generally was less than $200. Now, someone is dumping serious amounts of halves, all marked with a certain color of marker...and I feel like a chump each and every time.

How do you handle these situations?

take search and shift them to another bank --cash the duds in at the "other" bank for money , then go back and get more halfs from the bank that has several hundred on hand --search them until you have "moved" them all to the "other" dump bank --- once your done you will then know what bank has all the "duds" do not get coins from there .

I say find another bank and dont use this guys dump...

The problem is that this guy is dumping big amounts of re-rolled halves across the southside of the city. If this was just one or two branches, I'd just skip them. He is dumping everywhere. No banks are off limits to him.

I've actually been dealing with a similar problem, mainly with dimes though. So far I've been able to maneuver around this guy without too much trouble. Hopefully he wont spread any farther west. However, he has recently started dumping at my home branch, so I really wont have a choice but to buy them and move on. I am considering asking my vault teller, who I have a great relationship with, just to set these aside and send them out. So far this week, this guys dumped over 600 in marked dimes.

In my opinion, if the teller went to the trouble of retrieving the rolls that you asked for, then I believe you are obligated to go ahead and purchase them. Its just common courtesy IMO.

I agree, ABM. That is what I've been doing.

I got really excited a few months ago, when I walked into a bank that I never go to. When I asked for halves the teller said "We never get them, but today is your day. An older customer brought in $470 in rolled halves just a few hours ago."

I bought $200 worth, and was already counting the silver in my head. I was going to be busting open solid rolls of Barbers and Walkers in MS condition.

When she laid them on the counter, my heart sank. Every roll was marked with a red marker. I took them anyway, and confirmed they were dumps.

Now this guy is dumping all over the south side, and in a big way, at every bank in town.

If dumping weren't such a problem for me, I'd take them all...but dumping around here is still difficult at best.

FWIW, it isn't like I've done this myself...remember when I dumped well over $450 on "Ginger" in the next town over? I guess I don't feel too bad about that though, it isn't like I am filling up every bank in that town each and every week with multiple boxes of dumps. That dump was a one hit wonder, IMO.

AS soon as I know that they have several hundred hundred worth, I say, can I please buy 50 bucks worth, just because in my head I am already thinking dumps, but I need proof, I then see what she comes up with. several times they have been machine wrapped, or customer wrapped rolls that are unmarked. When that has been the case, I have went back in a couple minutes, and say, Could I buy the other X worth of halves you had? If they are marked, I say thanks, and I leave. that is about all you can do unless you have more money, in which case you could buy all of them, quickly take a look as mentioned above, and they run them to a different bank up the street and dump them. Once you know that bank is out of halves, I would then call them, and say hello, I was in there earlier and I bought some halves, well I would like another $1000 worth... That way you order a box or two and you know they will be coming from the servicer. I cant think of much else you could do besides that. Good luck.
