Just curious because most photos posted show great detail but mine are crappy quality. Ive tried my galaxy tab and several different cell phones but the quality is still junky. I'd really like to post nice pics of my finds to share with you all. Any tips?

iPhone 4S plus photoshop app (If I need to enhance the image) plus an app called pic stitch so I can create these...

It's more about proper lighting than anything.

A camera.

Seriously, good lighting (or near a window? I've even been known to take a coin outside) and the macro setting.

Use the macro (flower) option on a camera for best pictures.

I downloaded an app called zoom camera. Actually helps improve quality. Thought i'd repost some new better pics of that 3 cent I dug the other day. Thanks for your tips. ''A CAMERA'' LMAO!

My iphone5 takes pretty good pics but holding the phone steady is essential for a good pic. As others have mentioned, lighting is important.

As stated above, macro mode with a digital camera and proper lighting (I think natural daylight is best).

preferebly my Sony DSC-H3 on macro or if the batterys are dead in that i do a close up with my Canon EOS Rebel

Macro setting and good lighting are key

Depends upon what I am taking the picture of. If the item is compatible, I prefer to simply scan it on my HP scanner.

In some cases, I take pictures with my little Canon camera, varying the light and distance. Then transfer the pictures to my computer, and examine them with a good photo editor. Crop to the appropriate size.

I posted a picture of a rock with a fossil leaf in it in the last few days, and nothing would give me a good view of the leaf. Partly, due to the bland coloring, and partly due to the irregular shape of the rock.

I use a very good camera that will allow the flash to be turned off while in macro mode. The flash kills the detail of a close photo. Use natural light when possible. I also use the macro setting with no flash while holding a 30x loop in front off the lense while the coin is underwater on a plate in sunlight. It works great. Don't bump the plate while taking the picture. I don't use a cell phone to take a good high quality picture - thay are good, but not that good, yet!!!
Good luck.

I use my cell phone. As it has been said there are numerous apps to edit. Lighting is everything. Here some photos I've taken and edited on my phone. I have iPhone 4

good lighting is key, and a good camera or phone, the more megapixels the better i think

In my link below you will see the results from my Nikon Coolpix 8800. xxJOBIIIxx coin-pictures with Nikon Coolpix 8800

It's a pretty old digital camera but had 8 megapixels to work with.

Lighting and being parallel with the subject are very important things to be aware of when taking a picture of coins or anything really.

I've been waiting a long time to start using my new camera. Canon G1X with a 250D 58mm Macro attachment lens. The pictures are going to be sweet!
