what does chalcedony look like?????

does any one have any pictures of chalcedony that thay can post for me please???
is it a workable material like flint??

I will have to look for a pic,but yes it can be worked....It is hard to work,but they are out there.
 
hey larson1951,chalcedony is great flint, here is some flint ridge chalcedony.pretty translucent also.in the pics is a hafted scraper,broken dovetail and a archaic side notch.

We have what is called sheet or plate chalcedony here in the Dakotas Larson. I will get some pics of how it looks up later. It doesn't resemble the lithics Greg posted pics of at all though.

I don't know how hard it is to work and have never found a point made of chalcedony but have seen some beautiful ones in others collections.
 
Here are some blades made of Chalcedony from your neck of the woods Larson. The material was found in thin layers in the Badlands I believe. A friend of mine has jars full of preformed chalcedony squares like the one I have pictured, that one is 1/4 inch thick..

Crude looking pieces from the material, but it looks like it allowed a decent edge.

Here's some Chalcedony pieces I have. I have a few more, but not any good pictures of them. In the last pic the Dovetail on the right is made from this material.
