There is an amazing cross-section of hobbyists that read and post here on Tnet. In the short time I have been here I have felt close to home, and find that what I have done for fun, profit, and relaxation are enjoyed by many others.

I'm interested in knowing what you all consider treasure to mean to you. Why you do what you do, and where you see the future of our hobby is going.

To start it off, I see treasure as anything that comes along that enhances my knowledge of history and the world around me. A Spainish reale from the terra firma fleets, buried silver coins from a long forgotten farmstead, and artifacts and relics of the First Nations to settle the continent.

Now, what about you????

Treasure to me doesn't necessarily mean something that has great monetary value nor necessarily something dug.It can be something found that reminds me of times gone that pulls at my heartstrings or reminds me of a more gentle, softer era.

I like the premise of your post. Most interesting. For me it is a simple thing....do I like it and does it make me ponder the circumstance of its history. It could be junk to another yet lands in my keeper pouch. If its worth money...hey...cool...I have sold many items and that has been helpful to me.Gotta say tho...as I look at my favorite finds(just now)I notice most of them have no monetary value, but you cant buy them from me.

gold items is a whole nuther story tho...very cool to find even if I dont like the workmanship and could care less bout the historic circumstance by which it was lost....just sayin..

Treasure or a target is something else that I have now before I dug what I just found. Sometimes the treasure is just being away from everything else in life. Though I must agree in the historical thought value of a find - after a forest fire removed all of the low foliage I walked into what was an "old gold miners camp" that I could now see. Plates from England, old unusual metal containers for food (early Tupperware I'm sure), unusual mining equipment. Then, if old coins could talk or gold rings so I could find the owner. Yes, a lot is history, some is the beauty of the find and some is just being out with my children............63bkpkr

GMD52, simply put, like Sly Stone said, it's different strokes for different folks :icon_thumright:

For me, it would be finding that fabled treasure, like the fountain of youth. Yup, I'd set up a sidewalk stand and sell it by the glass full :tongue3: I'd be both rich and famous. :icon_thumright: :laughing7:

To me treasure was tot some-then you found or dug up....

I'll have a venti sized cuppa that youth drink please.

Be careful to stay clear of NYC with your sweet elixor of youth, they'll tax it!
