Metal Detecting
Some of the higher end machines allow the user to set parameters themselves like tones, filters, discrimination etc. The Whites V3i is extremely customizable and the Minelab CTX3030 can be programed either on the detector itself or by using a windows based computer and the Exchange2 software program; along with gps and mapping features. Just a couple that come to mind.

Multi Frequency detectors. Yeah I'm a minelab guy.

I`m getting older so weight has been the biggest thing in 10 yrs.to me love the light weights

Very little! And for those who think there is, they're the ones the companies love because they keep buying the same reworked units and technology.

Faster processors and multi-frequency
