What I do when not MD'ing

When not using the MD...I spend my time in my decoy shop. Most of my decoys are carved from basswood. However the larger ones (swan) are carved from glued up spruce from the lumber yard. Tom B

Hey guys...thanks for all the nice comments...and d2 all my decoys are ffor sale...lol

Re: What I do when not MD'ing

Hey Dad, looks like you have some competition ;). Great job there Tom.

Re: What I do when not MD'ing

Very nice work Tom! It's always nice to see another carvers work. I carve mostly gunning decoys out of cedar or cork. My dad started me duck hunting on lake Champlain in Vermont during the 70s, so I like carving and collecting old gunning decoys from this area. Nice fine detail in your work, something that takes time. Thank's for posting. Jim.

Re: What I do when not MD'ing

Nice work Tom. I to carve when I,m not out detecting. I have been at it for about 11 years. But I only carve people in the round. I have never carved a duck. I could have been a master carver,if I did not cut my hand, about 55 years ago. Yeah I was carving a Paul Bunion bust with an exato knife when I cut my self bad. I put my knife down and never carved again until 11 years ago. I still have that unfinished bust. There is black [blood] smeared on the face of it. I still get cut from time to time ,but that is the only scar I have. Ducks look hard to me. You do nice work. Great hobby. Mike.

Tom, true works of art! an amazing gift you have.

Re: What I do when not MD'ing

Tom thanks for the PM. How long does it take to carve a docoy? I carve real slow. My carvings take about 3 mounths. Good luck. Mike.

Re: What I do when not MD'ing

Very nice ! I also carve, mostly antler and bone. ;D

Re: What I do when not MD'ing

Carved ducks, one of my favorites. I wish I had the skills to carve like that. Fantastic hobby.
