I found this many years ago.
I posted it on here someplace.
I was told it was a bearing from an old teeter-totter.
It is solid brass.

Interesting. An accurate weight and diameter would enable the density to be calculated, which might shed more light on what it's made from.

Milling ball is another possibility. It's not beat up, but then we don't know how much use it might have had.

Is it magnetic?

If you mean 173.4 grammes as a weight and 42mm as a diameter, then the ball has a specific gravity of 4.17

Assuming it is metal, not hollow, and not a shell around a core of something else, that pretty much rules out it being made from anything other than: an alloy with a fair proportion of aluminium (which has an S.G. of 2.7); or an alloy with a high proportion of titanium (which has an S.G. of 4.52) and is commonly alloyed with small amounts of aluminium for engineering purposes.

From the lack of corrosion I would guess the latter, and that it’s some kind of bearing.

IT is highly unlikely it is for anything "artillery" wise.

Oh no doubt I’m just in love with this thing color, texture, weight it’s perfect and I wouldn’t want another one because it would make it less special

thats because its probably a machined peice. large ball bearing. or a ball from a check valve.

check valves work while water is rising(from a pump) and pushes the ball away while the water travels through a pipe. when the water stops flowing, the heavy round ball drops into a slot, preventing any backflow of water from coming back to the pump. the check valve is normally located just above the pump. inside the check valve sits a large ball.

under normal wear and tear of a check valve ball. the ball will appear to be pitted from cavitation and the hydraulics of water.
