What is this Chainmail Armour?

hi was out on one of my thrift store/garage sale hunts and came across this. Was found at a thrift store paid only $8.00. Asked the lady who had just put it out what it was and she was like we don't know so I put a price of $8.00 on it. So I decided to take a chance and get it. It is to small for a person, so I am wondering if this is a vintage dog armor for a animal, more than likely a dog. As the chain part has France written on them and also Hungary. Has Leather straps. Size is around 20x18 inches. Thoughts?

Am I seeing things? Check out the 2nd picture again. I see a female torso. Is it really too small for a petite lady to slip into? Just asking, that's quite an illusion.

Could it possibly be something one could use for protection while fencing? (sword fighting?)
or cosplay? I've seen this type stuff on etsy, also.

difficult to put that on a cat....

how much does it weigh?
most modern chain mail is lightweight, useless for protection.

I didn't think them swords they fence with were THAT substantial that you wouldn't need really heavy armore?
Ok, Alex, I'll take "cosplay" for $200!

That harness has me confused. I know they sold chain arm protectors for butchers but the harness does not seem right for that.
