I have been going through my deceased grandfather's rock collection, and in a random box I found this big ugly stone with curious lines on it that look man-made.

Anyone have ideas what this could be? Without context it's probably impossible - I have no idea where it was picked up. He lived in the Tampa Bay area in Florida and since the rock is huge I doubt he found it interesting enough haul any long distance. He usually collected crystal formations and such, so someone may have given it to him hoping he might know what it was.

It's a sort of flat stone, almost two inches thick, and 7 inches from top to bottom. The lines are only on one side.

It has the look of something that was part of a structure.

I know we'd be all shooting in the dark, but I'd like to hear your ideas before I chuck it into the bay?

It's 2 inches thick and heavy. Looks like sandstone.

Dude, I think you hit the nail on the head! Now the question is: what to do with it?
