I've seen larger versions listed as "deco reproduction" bar ware. This one appears to be a shaker, but doesn't have a dispensing spout. The loop on the lid also has me a bit baffled.

Perhaps for coddled egg? Raw egg put in container, sealed, then immersed in boiling water for required time. Then hook out of the hot water via loop.

It's a cocktail shaker. The Napier version is the one to look for..

Yup, dig is right. Cocktail shaker. I picked up one of those a few months ago for $1. I was disappointed to see what they sell for. I'm going to give to my sister-in-law for a birthday present.
