What is this square metal object found in NW Georgia old farmland?

Found in old farmland in Northwest Georgia. About 4?x3.5?. Two separate pieces found about 30 feet apart. Fairly heavy?some kind of steel with what appears to be some copper in it? Could that be a bullet penetration hole? It doesn't look massed produced and likely hand forged I would think...

Not a bullet hole. Not forged.

Looks like it was being used as a bearing plate for something metallic that spun. Wearing through, got hot, shattered.

Just a thought. A steam traction engine blew up in Ohio, at a show, several years ago. There were bits & pieces of iron everywhere? Any history of anything like that in the area?
