Found this today on an 1800's farmhouse property. It appears to be copper with "JF" on the front and nothing on the back. Any thoughts?

Thanks

Are there no old broken off mounting point/s on the back?

If there are it could be a button, or a pin, it's hard to say without seeing the back.

It's hard to photograph, but its completely smooth. Nothing appears to have been attached. I'm thinking it may have been some kind of token.

Maybe it is a monogram piece that was on a jewelry box, leather bag, or some other personal item.

That's about my best guess.

With the quote marks, I'd think it was a trade token used either in a slot machine or card game. The denomination was implied and the proprietor didn't want his information made public. Entirely possible that it was used in a gambling operation - when the sheriff made a raid, those involved in the games knew enough to say that it wasn't worth anything - just a counter to keep track of scores. Like using beans or pins for stakes in a game.
