I recently found this at a old home site that was back in the woods. I got permission and I showed the landowner and he had no idea so I am stumped.

I thought it was a candle holder but i don't know. And if anybody knows what year that would be awesome

top to bottom is about 2.5 inches

I'm not sure what it is, but from the size my first thought is that it's a holder for a round glass inkwell.

I couldn't find an example of a round one but many glass inkwells were either round or square, here's an example of a square glass inkwell with a silver holder that seems similar to what you have found.
