Found this metal detecting in a 1800s home site. What is this it was packed with hard rock gravel cleaned it up with water. How old is it this? Pull up a similar photo. Im guessing it brass? Because its green? Why does it have orange paint?

My first thought was it's the broken foot off of a piece of metal furniture that was in a fire.
Possibly from a sewing table, I find a lot of these types of pieces on early homesites.

Based on the shape, it probably dates from 1880 - 1920.
