Hello All! Hope you had a good new year.
Haven't posted in a while but have been at it pretty hard.
I just finished up my set of Merc dimes and have decided to put a set of MS coins together.
I want to go all graded and all above MS-62, I am torn between Buffalo (Indian Head) Nickels or Indian Head Pennies.
I am leaning towards the buffs because i just got the one we found a few months ago back from PCGS its a 1935 and it graded MS-65, From a box!!!
So what would you do?
It doesn't have to be either of the two mentioned above but keep in mind I'm not a millionaire.
Obviously i dont plan to CRH the set i will be purchasing them.

You found a ms 65 Buffalo in a box? Wow.

If you want a beautiful set in 62+, I'd go with yer Buffs, Morgan dollars (many of which are very reasonable in 62+) or silver commem halves. There are a few Morgans that won't come cheaply ('93-s is $100k+ in MS), but you can put together a beautiful collection with CRH proceeds (that's what I'm doin!). Of course, if you are doing volume like TimZim or CardsnCoins, that MS '93-s might still be within your reach!

The one thing I would try to steer you away from is putting together is a set of high grade BU common coins like Jeffersons, JFKs, etc. I think you will be better of going with something that has intrinsic and/or collector value (rarity). Just my 2 cents.

i would do the buffalo nickel set. I love the design. Can you post a picture of the ms65 buff? :)

IHP personally

:laughing9:Thanks for the responses. My first choice is the Morgans, and although i will be bringing money out of pocket i cant afford the 100k+ price tag of the 93-s or the 94, hell even a lot of the CC's for that matter, I love the Commem halfs but going through 18-24 boxes a week halfs dont exactly get me going like a MS buff does. Pic of the Buff is raw...... also a little silver porn from this evenings 4 boxes....been a long time since i had an obverse Bender!! buff.webpphoto.webp

I like the Indian head pennies, I like the looks better with a little wear though. As crazy as that may sound.

sorry for the crappy pic of the Buff, the luster is super nice. I will get some good pics of it slabbed at work tomm.

Nice buff, thanks for posting pictures! What state are you hunting in?

I am currently working on CC GSA collection. Just bought an 1885 2 days ago.

I gotta friend who knows I collect coins, and in our conversations he sometimes mentions he has a few books of old coins, but never seemed to excited/interested in them. I've mentioned I would love to see them, and you know, kinda let him know what he has {playing an angle to acquire them?} So Sat nite we at his place, and breaks out a complete set of Barber Halves, in MS 60+ a lot of dazzlers.. and I almost fainted. I tried to be coy, but he knew that I just got OWNED. Dammitman, they were sweet!...

Franklin halves. Not terribly expensive, and they have intrinsic value as they're all silver.

I would like to have an MS set of Walking Liberty Halves. They are one of my favorite coins.

Yep same here

just keep stacking, just keep stacking, stacking stacking stacking

I have seen movement in the last couple years on MS franklins moving. I have seen an increase in activity on these coins in the ms grades with good bell lines. These are relatively cheap and pretty easy to get in better grades. This might not be a bad way to go if you like these coins.

Cheers - Koffee

Thanks for the input guys. I am located in Michigan. I do like the walkers, never been a huge fan of the Bens although that is my girlfriends favorite coin.

I'm working on almost the same collection! If you don't mind me asking about the 1885cc, did you pay an arm and a leg, and do you know where I can find one(doesn't have to be GSA)? :)

$725 for an 1885 cc gsa, I think it will grade a 63-64 (if and when I send it out)
