What Kind of rock might this be?

Found on a beach on Mackinac Island Michigan. It almost reminds me of lava rock but I do not think it is it seems more dense. I was also thinking it could be a chunk of old brick? Im not sure any one else know what it could be?

It could be a piece of old brick or terra cotta or even some old native pottery, it would be to hard to determine as water has eroded it's original form.

My first impression was a weathered bit of fired brick as well.

Thanks for all the help! I think I might have solved it for sure yesterday when searching on a beech in another location far from the original location. I found a bigger chunk that looks about the same. Im 99.9% sure its a Fired Brick as Charlie P. stated. If you have any other guesses or evidence of it being something else let me know, but I think I can put this as solved!
