What might this tag be from?

Eyeball find while hiking out of the woods. An aluminum tag with the number "34" on it. (2- 3/4 X1 inch)

Tool chit from a factory tool room, coatroom tag, ear tag from cattle, almost anything where a numbered tag would have been needed. Probably nearly impossible to narrow down.

Possibly from a horse? I have seen horses being ridden in that area.

It could also be a logging tag, I suppose, for marking cut logs.

I've run across those as well in our forest preserves. . . around here, they're nailed
to live trees so they can be included in forest preserve stewardship programs which
protect them from being harvested.
