I have the 3khz,7.5khz,and 18.75khz 9 inches coils.

Another coil question......If the 7.5khz coil is installed, how would the X-Terra 70 show a gold wedding band 4" deep? Will I be missing gold with the 7.5 installed? And then if the 18.75khz coil is installed, will it miss a lot of coins?

Arrrrgh!

:-\ ??? I know,Im confused! Any help out there?

For old coins I use the 3KHz's coil and pulled a 1877 seated dime at a measures 5"yesterday out of a trashed park... I use all metal 4 tone and the sensitivity 26-27 here.. When I get to many iron signals I back down the sensitivity to about 20 or to where the iron starts to drop out..Yesterday after running in all metal I decided to do a silver pattern so I discriminated everything except 28-44, sensitivity at 20.. If the VDI varies more than two places it is usually junk.. If it stay in like 36-38 dig it!!!
Gold wedding band at 4" or so would come in about 10-14 range on most coils..
Not going to miss much with any of your coils just tweaking your detector for better response to desired targets and conditions..
3KHz's Hot on high conductors like silver and copper coins and iron sounds very distinct..
7.5KHz's all around coil
18.75 KHz's good for low conductor like gold and small items, relics

Thanks Cosmic!
Somebody help me with the lingo - whaddaya mean when you say "3KHz is Hot on high conductors..." What does HOT mean? Runs well? No so good? Sings loud?

Thanks!

Thanks for the comments,so far. Im going to try the 3khz coil at the park and I'll let you all what I find. The xterra 70 seems to be a great machine for me!

Gary, what he means about being hot, is that its very good on finding the higher conductive stuff like coins, etc. So what kind of detector,do you want to get?

I'm looking at either a Whites MXT or an X-Terra 70.

I'm eager to see the 'new' X-Terra's due out on Apr 6th.

I would get a xterra70.Look at this way, when the new xterras come out, people will be selling their old ones to buy the new ones. Thus the price will drop and you should be able to get a better deal! Minelab explorers are all over ebay because of the same thing. I would wait to see what the markets gonna do.

treasuredog, if an area is *extremely* trashy, a coil smaller than 9" might be best.

Gary in PA, 7.5 kHz might cause a gold ring to be missed at 9", but 4" should not be a challenge for any frequency. The 18.75 kHz 9" coil will have correct tone to 9" on a nickel in air test, while rejecting a modern tab that has very nearly the same conductivity. HH, George (MN)

7.5klhz i think is best all around for coins and jewlry. 3klhz maybee a bit low for jewlry. And 18.75 not as deep for coins as 7.5klhz.

if your searching for silver/copper coins, you cannot beat the 3khz coil, my silver coin finds have doubled since getting it, and another thing I noticed it runs a lot more stable than the stock coil therefore I can run sensitivity higher, with the stock coil I can only run it smoothly at about 22-23, with the 3khz coil I can smoothly run sensitivity at 25-26, and that gets the deep coins!

I have been using the 9 inch 3khz coil at a trashy park, that I frequent and have found more coins, this year. That includes large cents, wheats, indian head pennies, barber dime, mercury dimes, rosies, washington quarter, etc,so far. Its seems to be hot on coins, and until proven otherwise,I will continues using it,as my primary coil. Any other suggestions, would be appreciated. Thanks for all comments. I love my Xterra 70!! ;D

u cannot beat the 3khz, mine stays on 100% of the time

I went out saturday afternoon with the 3khz coil and found a 1918 s wheat,3 coin buttons, shot gun shells, lead and misc. junk. I also have found v nickles, and buffalo nickles. Its a trashy park, established in 1891,but keeps on giving up the treasures! Im happy with my xterra 70 and wait to go out again ;D

great finds! I love my 3khz coil, and it NEVER comes off

Ok Goes4ever,
My buddy talked me into buying a X-tera. It should be here today or tomorrow. In the meantime, yesterday, I tried my hand at using his. He showed me a lot of cool ways to use it and how to pinpoint with it. I found a few coins and got a signal 42. I tried pinpointing it and it still read a solid 42, mmmmmmmmmm so I dug down, couldn't find the darn thing. My buddy he came over and looked with my F-75, we traded detectors. He said there was something there but neither one of us could find it. I said I can't believe there isn't something there, we even used pinpointers. So we filled in the hole and as I was getting up, I rechecked the hole and off to one side was that same signal 42. It was a Sterling Silver ladies ring, in a clump of mud that I had taken out of the original hole. Guess it pays to recheck your hole. LOL.

Now I can't wait to try my own out. I really like how light weight it is, so keep giving pointers on here y'all and I'll keep reading them. I'm not sure what detector is 3 Kz or what, but it came with two coils, a long flat one and a round one.

Take care,
Ringfinder

Denny,
I thought when you came over to hunt with me, you HAD an xterra?? you had it in your truck that day?

I am about positive the coil you have is the med. freq, or 7.5 khz
look at the coil, should be a sticker on it and if it is the med freq, it will have a "M" on it, the 3khz has a "L" on it for low freq, 3khz............The detector comes stock with the 7.5 coil, which is good for all around detecting. Since I normally hunt for old coins, I prefer the low freq 3khz which hits much harder on copper and silver coins, and I feel it gets a bit more depth on coins as well if the soil is mild

OK, When it gets here, I'll let you know what coils I have. Yes I did have my buddies X-TERRA in the van when I hunted with you, but I used my own detector because I knew it and didn't want to have to learn a new detector for one day. I'm learning it now. LOL But I still have my trusty F-75 and Explorer II.

Thanks Again,
Denny
