🔎 UNIDENTIFIED What sort of writing is this?

Looks like Hebrew to me.

Hebrew it is, but you're showing it upside down.

If what you have is hollow and opens up (or you have what seems to be the lid of a two-part container), it's a probably a protective cover for a 'Teffelin', which is a small leather container enclosing verses from the Torah, hand-written on parchment. Modern ones are usually made of hard plastic, but vintage and antique ones may be in lightweight metals.

I can't translate all of the text but it seems to be a Hebrew prayer to the Lord asking for grace, favour and mercy, and guidance to a path of peace. As a deliberate design feature, these boxes sometimes have the text in mirrored image and there may then be a small built-in mirror inside so that it can be read correctly.

By Jewish lore, these boxes should always be square.

If it's solid, rather than a box, it may just be a pocket talisman. With no claim for accuracy, Google translates it as:

The Traveler's Prayer. May it be Your will to lead us in peace and bring us back in peace and to grant us favor, kindness, and mercy in Your eyes and in the eyes of all who see us. Blessed are You, LORD, who hears [this] prayer.

Here's the other side. Appears to be plated pot metal.

Thats a nice prayer for all of us to follow in our lives !
