What The Concession Stand Didn't Get, I Got! 201-Coin Day
Hi all,
The weather forcast is calling for rain the next few days, so I decided to visit a school in a nearby district I had never been to before. The results were disappointing..the small field behind the school gave up maybe 8 quarters and the tot lot only gave up a few cents and a kid's ring.
I was about to leave when I noticed a pair of soccer goals in a field down the hill from the school. Since the field was fenced off from the school grounds, I got back to my truck and drove down the street toward the field..I found out the field was actually part of a public park. I don't usually do well in parks, however there was a concession stand near the soccer field, so I knew that was a definite plus..parks and sports areas with concession stands are usually littered with lost change.
The gate was open, so I walked in, turned on my Prizm and started swinging away. My first target was a dime, then another, then a quarter, then another. I was beginning to think that if there was change coming this quickly in the middle of the field, there must be lots more around the outskirts where people sit to watch the games. I was right - they were not only all up and down the sidelines, but some were right next to each other and there were lots of holes dug with more than one coin in them.
I don't know why I always seem to get the best surprise(s) early in my hunts, but within the first 30 minutes I dug a nice silver band a few yards from the soccer goal.
I pounded that field for 5 hours without stopping to rest because the amount of quarters I was pulling motivated the heck out of me! Even though I was surprised another ring wasn't in my future today, I had an absolute blast "quarter shooting". About 3/4 of the way through my hunt I found a Susan B. Anthony dollar. I decided I was getting too tired to dig any more pennies, so I concentrated on the quarters more than anything. Except for a nice couple who ran their dogs in the field for about 30 minutes, I had the entire place to myself and enjoyed a beautiful Sunday morning in the great outdoors.
I ended up with 68 quarters, 48 dimes, 9 nickels, 72 Lincoln Memorials, 3 wheats and a Susan B. Anthony dollar - 201 coins that added up to $24.00 even! I ended up breaking 3 personal records for clad today, one for the most coins in one day (my old record was 176); one for the highest dollar amount in one day (my old record was $21.81) and one was for the most quarters in one day (my old record was 54).
Here's some pics from today's hunt.
Thanks for viewing and I hope everyone had a great weekend!
