I had to auctions running. And I still do however I started them $.99 and one had a bid of $41 on it. The other one had a bid of $32. This was as of Thursday night the bids for that high. I just went and checked them now and they have a bid of $2 and a bit of $7. so what have been somebody just seeing how high the next person bid the auction? And then they pulled the bid on it. For instance they want to see how high the next person is so they put a bid on it it shows everybody that it's at $42 and then the high bidder pulls his bid and drops back down to seven dollars? Should I end the auction and restart it? The guy must have built up both auctions to see where they were at and then pulled his so it droppef back down?

You seem to be getting all the weird people this week.

Man you have had a rough time of it lately. I never did like ebay auctions. They bill them as real auctions but there's way to much crap with them. Like entering a high bid but that's not your bid unless someone bids it up to that. Can't do that in real life why there? Now you can run them up the cancle the bid because of what I just mentioned above. Really if the auction is at 5 bucs and you type in 50 that should be your bid, not 5.01 until another bidder runs it that high.

Sorry to rant but its the little things like that that drives both good buyers and sellers away. Good luck and I hope your day's get better.

It sounds like this may be some more testing by eBay due to them trying out new software with the upcoming separation of them and PayPal. I would suggest bring up the Auction page for each item and check the Bid History as this will tell you if a Bidder or Bidders bid on the items and then retracted them. I can't remember but I thought that eBay sent you an email anytime there was a bid retraction.

.5 and .10. What you are describing is proxy bidding. Most auctions have them. You can call or go to an auction early, give them your top bid, and they bid for you up to your max bid. It's actually a good thing. Put yourself in the buyers shoes. And, I've been selling and buying here since 1999.

Well they all sold however no one paid for them again. So I went in and set my auctions to block bettors with two nonpayment strikes over the last six months. Maybe it will weed out some of the trash

I thought that was already a given? I have all have all those settings set to the max for my benefit. No wonder you have so many problem customers. Yeah, you gotta weed out the whackos man. Also use the"require immediate payment when buyer uses BIN" feature on your listing page. I run into 2 maybe 3 non paying customers a year. Knock on wood.

I did have it on that and then I got an email from somebody asking if they could buy something and I took it off so he could buy it and guess never put it back on. So I didn't realize I had that on there but now I do. I guess it's my fault for not realizing that though

I have had this happen in the past.

Bidders can use a bid-then-retract strategy to find out what the highest bidders' max bid is.

It's a pretty crappy thing to do... and the person who still has a bid in, will now be suspicious that he's being gamed by the seller.

But of course eBay (being ridiculously tilted in favor of the buyer) will do nothing.

I had this happen this week, makes me look bad to the other bidders

Ive had this happen several times as well on my auction listings. Seems it always comes down to someone bidding it up then cancelling their bids. Worse is the non-paying high bidders, more than once i've heard "my kid got into my account and bid up the auction".
