What is a tax refund?? LOL I am self employed and I do not get refunds instead I pay the government.

Precious metals in general, and gold in particular, don't yield a "return on investment." The purchasing power of gold has been pretty consistent throughout history. Try not to think of gold "going up" in value when you see the price rise, but rather that "the dollar" (or your local currency) is going down in value.

Gold doesn't not pay dividends. When you purchase shares of Microsoft stock, for example, not only do you enjoy the potential for the value of the stock to rise, but you always enjoy dividend payments for the stock you own. Precious metals don't pay dividends. When you purchase precious metals you are not investing in a company or business which hopes to use your capital to improve their business operations with the promise of returning your cash plus some profit. You are just buying metal.

With that said investing in precious metals long-term tends to be an excellent way to protect your wealth. If that's all you wish to do then purchasing gold is a good way to go, but if you really want to grow your wealth then there are better plays to make.

Kudos to you for looking for ways to invest your money rather than buying a new giant-sized TV!

Always good to invest extra money instead of blowing it, but I wouldn't buy gold or silver now with the prices so high.

Wait till the economy takes off, and then gold will drop again......probably.

No refund this year..Guess the only gold and silver I invest in will be in what I find..And odds are, that's a very bad investment..:.)..

As much as I would like to purchase some pm's, anything I get back will most likely need to go into the propane budget.

We feel your pain!!! Pay pay pay, so they can, spend, spend, spend!

I'd look to see if any of the companies that are involved in 3D printers are public. This technology is going through the roof. It's going to be a major method of prototyping soon. Me thinks.
My regret was, because of a domestic inability, I didn't buy Apple in 98 at 5 bucks a share. I knew Apple was too good to fail.
Lesson: If your other half is inept....Don't ask. Like Nike...Just do it.
Metals, aside from the commodities market, are a hedge fund usually against inflation that we don't have. Metal prices are going down because the investors are coming out of the basement and going back to stocks.
Some of us are old enough to have seen, several times, many people jump on metals way late and loose their investment. Many stocks do better over time if you ignore the emotional investors.
I guess Americans have this instant gratification thing. Like not wanting to wait 10 years for the bottle of wine they bought to get ready.
For investors, if others value a stock, it's probably valuable. And the insiders tip, everything known about a stock is in it's price.

So, send me your tax return at my Nigerian address in my profile. Do not place a return address. Not necessary. I'm busy so do not try to call. Reception isn't good here anyway.

Whats a refund? I haven't had one in over ten years .........
