Hello Everyone,

Currently I swing the Minelab SE whenever I can go out and dig. In really trashy sites, I always seem to get trash and my buddy (JuJu) always seems to get coins. Not only does he have more experience on me, but he has a Whites and it is not as expensive as mine was. As many of you know, I did not get the Minelab SE because of the price, but because of what many people have said about it. Right now I swing the really big coil instead of the standard coil that came with my minelab SE Pro. Instead of investing in a new detector, should I switch back to the standard coil for my detector or should I buy a smaller coil?

Odd thing is, I seem to do really well at none old trashy sites getting wheaties, buffs, and indians. Silver's seem to elude me though. I would really like to get more finds. What do you think the best option is for me? Switch to standard coil, get a smaller coil, or get a whole new detector all-together?

What settings do you guy's who own Minelab SE's hunt with? I would really like to know, distinguishing between trash signals and good signals are hard at the sites we hunt at.

Heres my settings:

Sensitivity: 18-22
Iron Mask: I think its 26 or 27.

I know I am only masking out nails. I dig everything else.

Detectingfreak, your machine may be better, or equal to mine... I normally dig most hits, excluding foil, for some reason the machine has never been wrong there :laughing7:

Then again, I'm sure you'll get replies from people that actually know what there doing and that will help

You need an 8" FBS coil, and you need to run 60-75kHz for silver at 12" or less. I use the Minelab GPX machines (PI) for gold nuggets out west. Your VLF machine is one of the best in the business but, it takes 100-hours to become proficient with it. A Tesoro Compadre, or even a Tesoro Vaquero, only takes about 2-hours to learn. When you buy a Ferrari, sometimes it takes a while to find the cigarette lighter - Cheers!

There's you problem man.....Everyone wants the bigger coil. WHY? :dontknow:

Get the standard 11 FBS Pro coil, and make it easy on yourself . Please don't use the big coil unless you are trying to locate iron with it. The only time I use mine, is to locate the old homesites in fields...When I do locate the iron, the big coil comes off, and the stock 10.5 pro goes on....And I grid. After I grid and find my good stuff, (yes along with the bad), the Pro coil comes off, and the CoilTek 10x5 Joey goes on , and I pick what I missed between the iron. The 10x5 Joey is the best coil for the Minelab I have used as a small coil. I have used all the other manufactures except the SEF 8' which I hear is good too.

Here is the 11 stock coil....

Do NOT buy another machine...You have a World class detector.

If you need help in getting the coils, call me Toll Free.

I hope this helps
Mike

Here's a setting you can try

Ive already got the pro coil. I guess its just my settings. I will try these out next weekend when i hunt.

I used my Whites DFX for years not knowing really how to adjust the settings for conditions. I'm learning my machine finally!!

I think all these machines are good, you just have to learn how to set them up!.

Jeff. :coffee2:
