Relic Hunting
I have a young co-worker that has a interest in indian artifacts and of course since I share the same interests on occasion he'll ask questions on where and how to hunt for them. This piece he said is not a personal find but it has been in his family for years and stated his uncle found it in Tennessee along the river which borders Alabama. He doesn't know if his uncle is telling the truth about finding it (I guess since this was the only one he found and didn't get addicted to hunting them after this). I'm guessing a Adena stemmed, even though this material is found in North Alabama I'm not familiar with Tennessee styles at all. He let me take a few pictures of this at work. I'm glad he showed it too me because I've never seen or held one like this. It seems anciently authentic to me even though the material is light and sort of dry feeling. The size is 4 1/2 by 1 1/16, sorry the pictures are not better but they were taken inside cause it was dark outside. I also told him I would get some answers on what he has.

Looks like a good, authentic blade from that area. I would say it’s slightly earlier than Adena, but not by much. Resharpened knife and a nice one. Very cool.

Nice piece. I am drawing a blank on the type, but there are some things in Mississippi/TN/Alabama like Pickwick & Ledbetter that have a little more flare to the stem than the standard Adena shape and are often resharpened without much regard to symmetry.

Like Twitch said, might be a bit earlier than Adena, mid to late archaic.

Big ol' knife, looks authentic from here.

it is a cool piece, I'm glad he showed it too me and let me take a few pictures. I told him it's a archaic butcher knife; he was happy with that.
