Gneiss that has been well weathered in a stream or river.

Thankyou so much! I found this rock a couple of miles onto a beach in Southport, UK. I thought it might be a fossil, because of the holes - but a person from a different forum told me it is not.

I think it looks more like quartzite than gneiss. Both are metamorphic rocks. Both can have strong banding. I'm not positive, Charlie may be right. Gary
