Get a GoPro. Wear it while detecting. It can record for up to 6 hours.

Is what he is talking about, the 2 HD would be what you want it is 299 though.
I have a few of them and use them for Arial video on my tri-copter, and when I am snowboarding and wakeboarding ect.
For a more realistic point and shoot with LCD you can get Olympus Stylus 1030SW waterproof for pretty cheap now.
