Re: What was your favorite find for 2006?

... and you did not even need a detector for that find :)

Re: What was your favorite find for 2006?

hmmm That doesn't come close??? Are you kidding, Ray? I would gladly swap 116 common date morgan dollars worth $16-$25 each for one of those! I remember when I originally saw your post. I nearly fell out my chair. I think the gold coin is tops!!

Re: WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE FINE IN 2006?

This old baggage tag might have been it, I just started last summer. I also found 8 or 9 wheats, 3 mercs, and an IH penny. All in all, pretty exciting to me. Nothing like you guys though. You guys are my heros!

HH,
Ramapirate

Man, I would be dancing with joy if I found either one, the silver or the gold.

Re: WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE FINE IN 2006?

"Those are both very nice finds," he said, with just a hint of understatement. It's like comparing apples and oranges though, given the circumstances. Who wouldn't want to find a stash of silver dollars in a house? Anyone swinging a detector wants to find a gold coin, of course; it's hard to decide which I'd prefer. I'd be hardpressed to decide between my 1837 half dime and 1831 Bust Half Dollar, both with very nice detail left. The half dime is worth more, so I might have to lean that way.

Re: WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE FINE IN 2006?

Sorry, that picture is rotten; I'm still refining my technique.

Re: WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE FINE IN 2006?

My favorite has to be my first, an 1840 half-dime. I started MDing in sept, so I'm pretty proud that this was my first ever coin. I also really like the IH pennies, I've dug 3 so far. The pic was scanned in Nov. it was suppoesd to be part of my "end-o-year" stuff.

I also got an '09 VDB a few weeks ago!!!

Another of my favorites from 2006

Another of my favorites this year came without the use of a detector. I posted this one back in November in the "Coin Roll Hunting" Forum.

I decided to try roll hunting this summer with so-so results. A few 40% silver and an occasional circulated proof half, but not much else. At the end of November I asked the teller at my local bank how many rolls of halves they had. She told me 30 rolls, $300. When she was counting I could see at least one roll had a Franklin Half peeking out at me.

Here were the results:
12 Walkers
7 Franklins
13 Kennedys (40%)

Are you saying you bought all of the halfs and that's what you found!?!? That's freakin' awesome! I may have to try that.

Favorites for 2k6 were the rings and buttons. Two gold rings, 1 14kt and 1 10kt, one silver, two buttons and a pin that says Indiana NFBPWC Past President. 8 rings total, one 18kt not shown here as it was confiscated by a very happy wife.

My least favorite fine was a speeding ticket on my way to a fire... ;D ;D ;D

My favorite find was the 1798 8 reale...you can find a pic in the Best Finds forum if you haven't seen it yet.

Re: WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE FINE IN 2006?

Great posts...mine was "Barber Day" a few months ago...5 barbers found in one day at old recreation area, including 2 barber quarters in one hole -- best find that day was Barber Half partially sticking out of ground along cliff that had been eroding over time. Happy new year! (Note also Merc and buff nickle found that day; and that little round thing at very bottom is facing of Yale school ring)
