Any Idea what this is? Found on a site that I regularly find Civil War items. I saw the same item advertised on a relic site as an "unknown" piece.

Use to screw up lots of hummers in the Army, sometimes I would go check with the support guys to see if they could save it or if we where going to huff it.

Looks like something that was beheind the geared hub. Alwayys some odd little ring like that with a couple teeth not looking the same and those would get folded over.

However I am not a mechanic, I just like breaking things, on purpose, for fun.

There are variations and they seem to be found on Civil War era sites but this would take more time, research and more patience than I have to properly date and categorize the different patent improvements.
