What’s my sapphire worth?

To start hey everyone. New to the boards. By not to forums. I am a collector and deep in numismatics. I have side hobby’s including precious stones and stacking metals. I recently bought a house and found a loose sapphire and from some research. I acquired it is a pretty fine quality stone. Yes the internet has lots of m[A TTACH=CONFIG]1813301[/ATTACH] isguided and wrong info which in return brings members and people to believe they are rich lol but I would like some more opinions o this stone if anyone can help. I took my loop to it which appears untreated and is pretty beautiful. It’s about .94 ct the other sapphire is to show cut quality and color.

Welcome to the forum.

Why don't you simply take it to an appraiser and get it tested? I would defy anyone to positively identify a natural sapphire and correctly judge its quality or value just by looking at some pictures.

A lot of blue gemstones out there. Are you certain it's a sapphire? If it is, it's not the most desirable color, although it is a nice stone. Could be topaz, beryl, tourmaline.

Thanks for the reply, also basing a judgment off pictures solely is what it is at this point. But understandable and yes I am certain as I took it to a local small jeweler. They authenticated the stone being sapphire and not another stone. They would not give me a price Bc of the size of the stone they said which leads me here

Yes, once the country comes out of lockdown, take it to a jeweler. Most everything around here is closed. It is pretty.

One of my old jeweler guys would ID corundum with his diamond checker.
He said corundum will usually register a "4" on the diamond checker.
Idk the science behind it or if he had just handled so many stones,
that with his equipment & experience, had just honed his knowledge well.

There's also specific gravity test. You'll have to look it up online,
as I only ever seen one person do it (on some tourmaline I have).
I'd say it's worth what someone is willing to give you for it,
then bump the price up just a little...

"Fake" isn't the issue. It's lab grown. I have a few "boules" of rough lab grown sapphire here, as I have the machine to cut the stones. Those are cheap and I cannot tell the difference between the lab grown and natural by look.

There are a few simple checks and tests an amateur can perform which will eliminate many fakes and synthetics. But a stone that passes those simple tests still cannot be said to be genuine. A gemologist will use more sophisticated instrumental testing using a combination of things like conductivity meters, refractometers and polariscopes. Its virtually impossible for a fake or synthetic stone to pass all of the tests.

This seems to be a cut and polished blue sapphire. If this is a natural stone it's very precious. But if there are some cracks inside the stone, it becomes less valuable even it is a natural stone. You need to get it checked from Gemmologist to get to know the real value

Under high magnification the growth lines on a natural sapphire will have a slight curvature, which a man made sapphire will not have. Also there will be other mineral inclusions and voids in a natural sapphire that are very different from man made material.

Go to a GIA certified gemologist, they have the equipment and training to distinguish man made from natural.

Sapphires are not rare but natural sapphires of excellent cut color and clarity are very rare. The color could be a sapphire as they come in virtually all colors but the color in the photos you show, if it is accurate, is not particularly valuable.
