Whats the best site you have ever detected?

SAINT JAMES PARK, in San Jose, in 1969, "Silver City" silver coins galore, good old days! still got em!

i havnt been at it for real long, but the best place i have come across was a park in a neighborhood built it the early 40s. i found two mercs,a buffalo nickel, two silver roosies, about 12 wheats and some old lesny matchbox cars. im pretty sure there is more to be had as well even though i hunted it pretty hard.theres got to be at least one quarter there!

A old church where an even older church once was before burning down ;D

I'd say southern Colorado area of west of Walsenberg and over the Rockies to the Great Sand Dunes, Ton's of places to hunt and some of my better finds.

My finds are so anticlimatic compared to most I am almost ashamed to post them!? ?:'(? I guess it depends on what I was looking for at the time.? For coins and clad, High school athletic complex, but I also found two silver rings there.? For artifacts, old house demolition site, two tokens, a little gold plated owl pin, marbles, knife, RR switch lock, clad, dead cat in a sack & and misc. junque.? For the most expensive find, a gold chain necklace, open air basketball court in a park. Rings, beach on a freshwater lake, two gold rings, two plated, one silver ring and clad, also a watch, large folding knife and a womans wig for the Sheriff's office reported as a possible dead body.? Parks in general, clad, a 1923 mercury dime, a silver plated initial ring, parts of an expensive watch ran over by a lawnmower, a girl scout emblem (quite old), a chunk of mystery metal believed to contain silver, a gold high school class ring and last but not least an underground yellow jacket nest that stung h ell out of me!? Monty
? ?Oh, and I forgot, rodeo grounds, 13 Match Box cars and trucks.

Monty, I share your pain and shame.? ?:-[? Haven't found anything near like what's shown earlier in this thread.? But I'd have to say my favorite place (in the 1 month I've been detecting) is campsites along the rivers around here.? Must be something about the combo of kids, coins, firepit, drinking and all the other stuff that goes with camping that makes these places the best I've found.....so far.

BTW, dano, I have an aunt that lives in Walsenburg. Small world, no??

HH, ya'll!

monty dont be ashamed of posting any finds they are all finds regardless of value or looks,, a find is a find, if i find a button on my next hunt i'll be happy, post away and enjoy,, to be honest i very nearly dident post that pic for thought of p**sing folk off, but hey its a find my best one just thought id share,, these things are out there, its just hittin on them,, HH Paul.

No, tall or is it paul or just plain old tallpaul?(Annette Funicello music in the background) :-[ Anyway, I enjoyed seeing your find very much. I found a statuette also but it was a cheap chrome winged lady victory from a trophy! Seeing finds like that is what keeps us amateurs going! Great find! In fact, Excellent! Monty

the best place that I have ever detected is, sadly enough, my own yard. It is a rental house that is around 30 years old, but I am told that there was another house here before mine. It is a very small yard, total size is probably like 1/8 of an acre, just a very rough guess. Although small, this yard has really given up the wheaties, I am now up to 29 or 30, mostly coming out of a 5x5 ft area in the front yard. The oldest being a 1934, then all the way up through the 50's. Not one silver coin though, I have been over the yard probably at least 10 times with two different detectors, first the BH Pioneer EX with which most of the wheats were found (around 20), then with my Prizm III of which I found the remainder of the wheats. I guess the old addage "where there's wheats there's silver" isn't true after all, at least here. I don't think that they would have sunk any lower than the pennies do you? Only found 2 silver coins, a 1944D nickel and a 1953D rosie, but they were found elsewhere. Now when I try to hunt my yard I pretty much come up with nothing, oh well, on to bigger and better places.

Mine was an old fairgrounds in Iowa. It had a race track dating back to the 1870's. My single best day there I found a Seated Liberty half dollar, 5 Seated dimes, 4 Barber dimes, a two cent piece, seneral Indian Head cents, V nickels, Mercury dimes, and Wheat cents. Now the place is off limits.
There was a rumor that a local guy found a coin purse that contained a 10 dollar gold coin. ( I was never able to confirm this, but I do believe it).

Winner post! Well done!

My best site was my own backyard. I am a sentimental person and relics that relate to the history of our home and community mean far more to me than even the finding of a gold coin on someone else's property.

We have a rather large property in what was a very active location for our city back in the 1870's. In fact, there was a wooden framed church here, a horse stable, a farm, and this site was also used by surrounding houses as a mini dump ;)

I could fill a small museum with the stuff I've dug here over the years.

Life is good!

old schools house built in 1889 with about 2 acre school yard, in pa. found seated coins every day there and flying cents.

That is a good Question...It's had to name anyone site, there have been many sites ,from old cellar hole sites, scout camps , some great past Battle sites or camp sites from the War of 1812 to the Civil war , parks , construction sites, side walks in old towns ( and many here in Erie county are being replaced each year) so I would guess your best site would be where you found something rare, different,or find somehting that you like to collect the most.. Good Luck Hunting in 2006......Keep on Digging........SEEKER
