Whats up with nickles?

sounds pretty normal esp if most of the pre-'65's u found were '62, '63 & '64. I suppose the reason u found as many older coins as u did is because most people like yourself don't consider the common date older Jefferson nickels keepers and just let them circulate. But the common (non silver) earlier date Jefferson's don't really have any numis value in circulated condition so unless u have an interest in nickels or r a good ebay seller or r a bit of a coin hoarder like myself there's not much reason to keep them.

HH!

Thats a pretty small sample size....but there is little to no collector value in nickels post 1939 with the exception of the 1950d and the wartime nickels.

jeffs that are worth money are the following in VF to AU range, and with Full Steps: 39d- $5-25, 42dd- $100-800, 49d/s-$45-150, 55d/s-$6-25, 60 FS- $200, 61 FS- $675, 61d FS- $12,000, 63 FS- $10-45, 63d FS- $500+, 65 FS- $5000, 66 FS- $2000-4000, 68d FS- $4000, 68s FS- $100-400, 70d FS- $2000-6000, 70s FS- $100-500, 43p DDO $38-80, with FS $185-4000, any other war nick with full steps. payout return on nickels beats silver dimes and quarters hands down. finding near Mint State pre 72 nickels gets easy after you train your eye, throw in the "V"'s, buffs and silvers, = no stinking skunks.
Got $10 worth of nickels today just to break the monotony at work...400 nickels...almost 40 were 64 and before with 5 in the 40's...but no keepers. Is this normal? Why so many older coins?

Since the plan to remove silver was known, the mint began to produce more nickels expecting that the silver coins would be hoarded.

You are quoting the highest grades.... 1968d full steps valued at $4000 has a pcgs population of 1. Only 3 full step 1970d's exist. If they are this easy to find there would be a bigger pcgs population than 3!

I must admit that I do not often wander into the world of nickles, but when I do 1964 has proved itself to be the scourge of nickels.

Yeah u can sure expect to find '64's in virtually ever roll of nickels, but I know we're all glad '64 was a high mintage year for other coins too since it was the last year of 90% silver. Just too bad it wasn't the last year for 35% silver nickels too. :)
